Frontline Daily Devotion - Day 10 - Can You Hear Him in The Stillness?
PSALM 46:10 -- "Be still and know that I am God."
In the quiet of the stillness, I can know God. Stillness creates a mental picture of absolute peace, visually and audibly. No creature is stirring about. Nothing is moving or making noise. All is still. So quiet and beautiful. It might even be lonely. It takes effort to be still. When I finally get myself still, I first become aware of the stillness all around me. It becomes almost spiritual in contrast to the daily bombardment of sensual stimulation. Secondly, I become aware of myself in the midst of the stillness. Honoring it, awed by it, not wanting to disturb it. I relax, and for a few moments, I am alone with myself in the midst of God's creation. I become aware of quiet sights and quiet sounds in the stillness. I listen; I wait. I hear the rustle of the wind and the flutter of the leaf. I see movement in the grasses as a dust devil moves silently across the distant landscape, and a lone, solitary eagle floats on the thermals. And suddenly, I am aware of the Lord's presence. He is all around me, in everything I see and hear. I behold His glory, for the creation declares His glory. He is sitting silently next to me, reminding me of my importance to Him; reminding me of His desire to have fellowship with me. I am at peace. Joy fills my soul, as tears fill my eyes. His words echo in my ears, "I'll never leave you, nor forsake you. Now be still, and know that I am…God." I simply enjoy His presence, and my joy is full.
