Frontline Daily Devotion - Day 11 - The Lion King and The Lying King
1 SAMUEL 17:34 -- "And there came a lion."
There are two opposing views of lions. The first view is one of the noble King of the Beasts. This lion is fearless in battle; the protector of the pride. He withholds his power as he plays with the young cubs. Strong, ferocious, and more than willing to attack and take down the largest and strongest of the prey animals. He keeps the other animals on their toes, keeping them lean and healthy, while he culls out the unfit. Totally without fear, he reigns over the jungle. His roar is a reminder that the King is nearby and still in control. The other view is that of an opportunist that operates by cover of darkness. This lion only preys on the old, the weak, the young, and the distracted. This lion is cowardly and only attacks when all odds are in his favor. He brutally kills all the lion cubs that he did not sire, stamping out any threat to his dominance. The females do all the work, and he sleeps 20 hours a day. He tires easily and moves slowly, rather than deliberately. His roar is mainly for bluster, to frighten and startle weaker animals so that they panic and make themselves easy targets. He runs from any animal that stands its ground. Jesus is described as being the Lion of the tribe of Judah. He is noble and mighty in battle. He is King of Kings, and Lord of all. He is the Lion King. His light destroys the darkness, and exposes our enemies. The devil is also described LIKE a lion, seeking whom he may devour. He can't devour everybody, but he targets the new Christian, those going through trails and tribulations, and those with little faith. But he can be resisted, and he flees when you face him head on. He is the LYING King.
