The Ten Commandments are considered by many to be the reason for the downfall of Israel in the wilderness and later in Canaan. But this Scripture makes it plain that when a commandment is from the Lord, it is not hard to bear. God is love. Therefore, anything that comes from God must reflect His love. When you examine the commandments of God, they are beautiful in their simplicity. Jesus summarized the Ten Commandments with two "new" ones. The first word in each was LOVE. It is only when you don't love someone that commitments and covenants become burdensome. God honors every one of the covenants He has ever made. His entire Word is a covenant. He fulfills every promise in His Word. That means that God is not fulfilling his own commandments with a grievous attitude, but with loving kindness. If I truly love the Lord, then I will obey his commandments. It's that simple. Jesus went to the cross because of love. God gave His only begotten Son because of His love for the world. If I consider the commandments of God as too hard to do, then I need to examine my heart and my intentions. Faith operates by love. The key to pleasing God, accomplishing His Will, winning souls, and walking in victory is LOVE.
