Frontline Daily Devotion - Day 16 - Life Vests, Anyone?
MARK 4:35-41 --"Teacher, don't you care if we drown?"
Maybe the teacher didn't care. Hadn't He taught them that all they needed was faith? "Just a little mustard seed of faith, that's all you need." As Christians, we sometimes find ourselves surrounded by circumstances, events, and situations that seem ready to do us in. All we can hear or see is the storm raging all around us. We panic and we wonder why Jesus would let us get into such a terrible mess. Our indignation is compounded when we are in the midst of doing the Lord's business when the storm overtakes us. Teachers teach. That the way it works. They seldom follow you out of the classroom to see if you learned. But Jesus was a different kind of teacher. He uses real life situations to test your faith. "I will not put upon you more than you are able to bear." Is His promise. In other words, He is saying that when the test comes you will be able to get a passing grade. Piece of cake, no sweat! This teacher had done all He needed to do. Test time! The teacher knew they could pass, so He went to sleep. He didn't care. But the Savior did care. He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace be still!" And then there was a great calm. Jesus the teacher had taught them well. The storm was not the test. Their response to the storm would determine their grade. He asked them the only question on the test, "Where was your faith?" They didn't answer, but the Savior was satisfied. They had come to Him, the source of their faith. They all got an "A" and they were straightway to the other side. If your faith is in Jesus, you will pass every test that comes your way! Why, because JESUS SAVES!
