Frontline Daily Devotion - Day 2 - The Truth, The Whole Truth, Nothing But The Truth
JOHN 18:38: "Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? "
Many people are very suspicious of others. Adults are suspicious by nature. We have learned to be suspicious because of the many times we have been lied to, deceived, and betrayed as we grew up from innocent child to jaded adult. We are also suspicious because we see in ourselves a depravity that comes from our own fallen natures. We desperately want the truth, but because of our inherent suspiciousness, we challenge everything. Too often, we sacrifice the truth and settle for a perception of truth, which we call winning. Then we move on to the next possibility of finding the truth. But our pursuit of truth is hindered by our need to keep from losing and being cheated or beaten by someone else. But, we do want truth. We want truth in our personal relationships, in our business dealing, in transactions, from our leaders, our teachers, our neighbors. How often have we denied or decided that something was untrue, only to find out later that the truth was there the whole time? Pilate was looking at truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. He was looking at what he was looking for, but failed to recognize it. Why?--because truth resides in a person, Jesus Christ, not in a situation. Without Him, there is no truth, nor discerning of truth. Jesus declares in John that "I am the TRUTH."
