Frontline Daily Devotion - Day 23 - Leap of Faith
LUKE 5:4 --"Launch out into the deep."
Push away from the safety of the dock and out from the shallow water. In shallow water, the shore is always your refuge, not the boat. In the shallow waters, the boat is only a mode of transportation and exploration. From the convenience of the boat, I can see the bottom, I can see what's in the water. From the vantagepoint of my boat in shallow water, I can study the shoreline. Should weather threaten, I can move quickly back into port and find a safe harbor. As I move into deeper matter, my boat becomes my refuge, my safety. But out in deep, the whole picture changes. There is nothing but water and sky and the boat. The sky goes on forever and so does the water. Deep and dark, the bottom is invisible in the depths. Your boat becomes smaller as all land disappears. You are far away from your docks, and your harbors. Your boat is no longer your refuge. The Lord of creation becomes your strength, your safe harbor. He has directed and called you into the deep. You know the water, but you don't know the water at these depths. New things become possible. You are in the deep exactly because you are looking for more. You are expecting more. And because your confidence is in Him, the next command may be, "Step out of the boat and come to me."
