PROVERBS 6:2 -- "You art snared with the words of thy mouth."

In modern terminology, you are hung by your tongue. Words have a way of hanging around. We see this truth in the political arena every day. Words can be stinging indictments. Words by themselves can come back to haunt and accuse you years after you spoke them. Because of these facts, you should be very, very careful with your words. You must always consider if your words can stand-alone and help the listener or reader understand what you were trying to convey. Our words are a reflection of our knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. An absence of one or the other directly impacts on the ability of my words to communicate my intentions and clarify what I meant. Someone who wants to use my words against me can snare me if I do not control my tongue, and choose my words wisely. Not by what I intended to say, but by a literal misinterpretation of what I said. "Loose lips sink ships," is another reminder that even light-hearted, frivolous, well-intentioned speech can come back and haunt us. Only an enemy seeks to snare you. The Pharisees sought continuously for an occasion to accuse Jesus. They analyzed every Word. They took them out of context, they failed to compare them to the Scripture, and they failed to evaluate the inherent goodness in what He was saying. They truly were snared by the words of their mouth. "Let His blood be upon us," they said. Their idle, emotion-filled words have been recorded in the Word of God for all eternity. My words will snare me or set me free. Therefore, the only words I should speak are truth. Truth sets me free. The truth is a man -- Christ Jesus. I must confess Him, proclaim Him, preach Him, teach Him, praise Him, exalt Him, declare Him, and repeat His words. This "proclaiming of Jesus" can be used to attack me, but it will be by those who have snared themselves. The truth, on the other hand, sets me free.
