Frontline Daily Devotion - Day 27 - Never Forsaken
JOHN 6:67 "Will you also go away."
Jesus knows all things. He knew the answer to his own question. So what was the point in asking? To often, we assume things about ourselves based on intentions, desire, or how we want to be perceived by others. Jesus had a habit of asking questions that forced his disciples into a confrontation. Not so much a confrontation with Him, as much as it forced a confrontation with the disciples and their perceptions of themselves. The question seems so hypothetical and distant. Minds quickly took stock of where they were at the moment the question was asked, and of course, the answer was a resounding "NO, we won't forsake you. We're in this for the long haul, Lord. Trust us, you'll see. And if you can't trust them, you certainly can trust me." Later, they would all flee from the Garden of Gethsamene in total panic. Peter would follow afar off, until finally he too would deny Jesus not just once, but three times. Jesus would die alone. But He always knew He would. No one else could do for me what He did. No one else could help Him do it. He alone saved my soul; He alone paid the price for my sin; He alone gives me eternal life. The question today is the same, "Will you also go away?" Will you go away if you are under demonic attack, if your marriage is falling apart, when you are sick, when your finances are exhausted, or when your children refuse to live for God? Will you go or stay? Take heed when you think you stand, lest you fall. Pray for strength to go the distance, and trust Jesus to help you.
