Frontline Daily Devotion - Day 7 - He Repeated Everything He Heard
John 12:49 -- "For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak."
Jesus never spoke or acted on His own. Every Word was a confirmation of what God had said concerning the Messiah. For two thousand years, skeptics have sought in vain to destroy the claims of Jesus concerning Himself. Every word has been analyzed, picked apart, exegeted, and studied. If there were things said by Jesus that contradicted what the Father had said, Jesus would have been discredited long ago. But His Words stand forever because they come from the throne of God Himself. Total agreement because of total obedience. As difficult as it may sound, we are commanded to do the same. Do I check every Word I speak against God's Word. The phrase "What Would Jesus Do?" is an equivalent to what Jesus was saying in this verse. The power of life and death are in the tongue. "Out of the abundance of the heart, a man speaks." If God's word is truly written on MY heart, then I must let His word guide, direct, control, and empower my life.
