Frontline Daily Devotion - Day 9 - Can You Hear Me?
MARK 1: 25 -- "But Jesus rebuked him, saying, Be silent, and come out of him."
Two simple commands from Jesus and the possessed man was delivered of the demon. It is interesting to note that the Lord didn't just say, "Come out of him." Instead, he commanded the demon to be silent. "Silence, so you can hear what I am saying." "Silence, so there will be no misunderstanding." "Silence, so the last thing you hear will be my voice." "Silence, because when God speaks, everybody and everything listens." The KJV uses "hold thy peace", instead of "be silent." Can a demon be at peace? The Bible says that when a demon comes out of a man, it goes to dry places seeking rest, but finds none. A demon can only be at rest in a person. A person can only be at rest in Christ. Jesus didn't just speak to the demon, He rebuked (scolded, reprimanded, chided, condemned) the demon. There is genuine emotion in the Lord's demeanor. God is love, but God can be righteously angry. It angered the Lord that this demon has possessed this man. God is a jealous God. We are his, bought with a price.
