Effective Church Leadership

Leaders serve people.

"MORE THAN"

"LESS THAN"

"SAME AS"

There are many keys to effective church leadership. Listed here are five principles

that will assist you in becoming more

effective for God, for your Pastor, and for

your church. Apply these principles to your

life and ministry and you will be more

productive.

1.  YOU NEED A VISION TO GIVE PURPOSE & DESTINY TO YOUR FUTURE.

(Our Vision tells us where we are going and what to expect when we get there!)

Vision means to:  “see by something other than light.”

PROV 29:18: "Where there is no vision, the people perish."

1 Sam 3:1:  "And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision."

2.   YOU NEED FOCUS TO HELP YOU KEEP THE MAIN THING THE MAIN THING. YOU FOCUS ON THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH.

(Our Mission tells us what we must do to accomplish our Vision.)

Focus means to: "pinpoint, where light comes together.”

·        Focus points us to the things we must do and the goals and objectives we must achieve in order to accomplish our mission. Mission includes the future and the present. It includes unique situations and battles with the adversary.

Mark 8:22-25: We see through a glass darkly. How do you see people?  Look at people until you see through the eyes of JESUS.

MATT 9:36: "But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd."

3.    YOU NEED HAVE THE NECESSARY RESOURCES TO SUSTAIN YOU ALONG THE WAY.

(Resources are the "stuff" you have been given to accomplish your mission.)

-          Resources could be the jawbone of an ass, five smooth stones, or spoil from the enemy.

-     Resources are seeds in the hands of God. They are temporal in the hands of man

-    The Resources are in the mouth of fish.

PHIL 4:19: But my God shall all of your need according to his riches in glory through Christ Jesus."

LUKE 6:38: "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again."

4.  YOU NEED ORGANIZATION TO PROVIDE ORDER AND FUNCTION.

(Organization is the concentration of power and facilitates rapid response and dissemination of information and instructions.)

·         Without organization, you have chaos, disorder, and confusion

·         Everything and everybody in their place, and a place for everything and everybody

·         Put the slower elements up front.

LUKE 6:39: "And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass. And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.“

5. YOU NEED LEADERS TO HELP YOU. LEADERS SEE THE VISION AND SUPPORT THE MAN OF GOD.

Leaders are all about people. Don't get bogged down in administration.

EPH 4: 11-12: "And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.

·         You can do a lot with a good staff

·         The anointing flows from the top, not the bottom

·        Watch out for: Absalom, Kora, and Jezebel
