THINGS THAT CHRISTIANS MUST AVOID
THINGS THAT CHRISTIANS NEED TO AVOID
To be successful for the kingdom of God, there are some things that can hurt you more than others – watch out for these things.
A. IGNORANCE -- “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” What you don’t know will hurt you – and others.
• The “root” word for ignorance is “IGNORE”
• Don’t overlook things – some of the important things in the kingdom may be beneath your radar screen. (Gibeonites)
• Don’t ignore people……
• Don’t ignore responsibilities…..
• Don’t ignore your spiritual development…..
• Don’t ignore GOD!
"Lean not to your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.“ (PROV 3:6)
B. CONFUSION -- God is not the author of confusion.
• Ignorance produces confusion. Don’t know what is right, don’t know how things work together, and don’t know how people fit in with one another.
• God is a God of decency and order.
• God brings peace and purpose into chaos and confusion.
• Jesus eliminates confusion: “And where I go ye know, and the way ye know. (JOHN 14:4)
C. WRONG DOCTRINE
• The Word is the sole source of biblical truth and church and kingdom authority.
• Know the core doctrines of the Bible – salvation, baptism, gifts of the Spirit, sin, and centrality of Jesus Christ!
• The word is your source – not people, books, practices, traditions, or denominations.
• As one of God’s leaders, you should know the Scriptures that back up and support everything you believe and practice.
• Ignorant, confused people teach wrong doctrine.
• When you see error, question it, correct it, or leave!
D. WRONG ATTITUDE
• Attitude is clearly seen.
• Attitude determines altitude.
• Attitude makes you attractive or unattractive.
• Attitude can be either full of pride or full of humility.
• Nothing worse than serving a leader with a bad attitude.
E. LACK OF SUBMISSION
• Obedience does not equal submission.
• Obedience is only the outer form of compliance.
• Submission is the inward form of compliance.
• You can be obedient, but not submissive, but you can’t be submissive and still be disobedient!
• Be quick to obey what is asked of you, not just do the things you want to.
F. TOUCHING THE ANOINTING….
• Don’t bite the hand that feeds you…
• Recognize who God has anointed to help you (Elijah and Elisha)
• Never talk about ministry (and ministers) in a negative way
•Cursing the fig tree..
• It is not that God is going to punish you, it is that you shut down what God is doing in your life
• Without anointing there is no burden removing, yoke destroying power available to you.
G. LACK OF PRAYER
• Pray without ceasing…..
• Spiritual leaders must learn how to pray and discipline themselves to pray – men ought always to pray….
• Prayer is your private time with Gods
• You can’t be upset with someone you are praying for
• Prayer is the best way to build your faith – it forces you into the Word.
F. LACK OF GIVING
"You must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of all them that diligently seek Him.“ (HEB 11:6)
BE A GIVER
• Giving is God’s plan to bless you.
• You reap what you sow
• Giving breaks the power of greed in your life
• An attitude of giving helps you become more sensitive to God
